Enterobacter
aerogenes Enterobacter aerogenes is a Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium that belongs to the family Enterobacteriaceae. It is an opportunistic pathogen, which means it is capable of causing disease in certain circumstances. It has been isolated from numerous clinical sources, including the urinary tract, and has been linked to hospital-acquired infections such as bacteremia, urinary tract infections, and wound infections. It is often resistant to some of the commonly used antibiotics, making it a significant clinical challenge. In addition to its clinical relevance, Enterobacter aerogenes has been studied extensively for its ability to biodegrade pollutants and for its potential to produce biofuels and other bioproducts. As such, it has significant industrial applications, such as the bioremediation of contaminated sites, and the production of renewable fuels and chemicals.
