Bacterial Infections
Bacterial infections are illnesses caused by bacteria, which are tiny, single-celled organisms. These infections can vary greatly in severity, from mild illnesses like strep throat and urinary tract infections, to more serious conditions such as meningitis, sepsis and pneumonia. Bacterial infections can be treated with a variety of medications, including antibiotics, which target and kill the bacteria causing the infection. Proper treatment of bacterial infections is important to prevent them from becoming more serious or spreading to other people. Knowing the signs and symptoms of a bacterial infection and consulting a doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment are key to avoiding serious health complications.
