Adaptive Immune System
The adaptive immune system is a highly evolved and complex network of strategically placed organs, tissues, cells and chemical mediators that provide the body with a defence mechanism against foreign invaders, such as bacteria, viruses and parasites. This system is highly specific and can rapidly develop immunity to a given pathogen within the body. It is critical for protecting the body from infection, and is a key component of the overall immune system. By recognising and responding to pathogens, the adaptive immune system is able to provide protection against mild and severe infections, allowing the body to become resilient to both new and re-emerging infections.
