Drug Resistance Mechanisms
Drug resistance mechanisms refer to the natural process in which pathogens such as bacteria and viruses develop their own defence mechanisms against drugs used to treat them. This mechanism of self-protection reduces the effectiveness of the drugs, leading to drug-resistant infections that can be difficult to treat. Therefore, understanding the mechanisms underlying drug resistance is vital to tackling the spread of drug-resistant infections, as it allows us to develop more effective drugs and find ways to prevent and manage drug-resistant infections.
