Overview
Vimentin is a structural protein that is commonly found in the intermediate filaments of many cell types. It plays an important role in maintaining the structural integrity of cells and helping them to resist physical and mechanical stress. Vimentin also participates in cell signalling and is responsible for the organisation of the nucleus, cytoplasm and other subcellular organelles. It is important for cell migration and adhesion, and is involved in the development of tissues and organs. Vimentin has also been found to be involved in cancer progression, playing a role in tumour cell invasion, metastasis and the development of drug resistance. Thus, vimentin is an important protein, playing key roles in various cellular and physiological processes.
