Purine Metabolism
Purine metabolism is the biochemical pathways by which our body breaks down purines, which are nitrogen-containing compounds found in many foods. Through these pathways, the body converts purines into energy and waste products. Purine metabolism is an essential cellular process as it helps in breaking down purines to produce energy and also to rid the body of nitrogen-containing waste products. It is significant for the normal functioning of the body and for maintaining healthy levels of various chemicals, including uric acid, in the blood. Abnormal purine metabolism can lead to certain health issues, such as gout and kidney stones. Therefore, it is important to understand and maintain proper purine metabolism.
