Cytochrome Oxidase

Cytochrome oxidase is an enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of electrons from cytochrome c to molecular oxygen. It is the terminal component of the electron transport chain, responsible for the production of energy in the form of ATP. Cytochrome oxidase is essential for the efficient functioning of cells, and its activity in the mitochondria is crucial for aerobic metabolism. In addition, its expression has been linked to several diseases, making it a possible target for therapeutic intervention. Cytochrome oxidase is thus an important enzyme for cellular metabolism and a potential target for the development of novel treatments for conditions that affect human health.
