Chromatophores
Chromatophores are coloured pigment cells in the skin, tissues and feathers of many organisms. They are responsible for generating and changing colour in response to the environment. Chromatophores are used for many purposes such as camouflage, signalling, self-recognition and communicating with potential mates. They also play an important role in the survival of many species, helping them to hide from predators, find food and reproduce. Chromatophores are highly adaptable, and are a great example of the intricate mechanisms of nature.
