Chemoattractant Axon Guidance

Axon guidance is a critical process in the development of neural networks. Chemoattractants are molecules that drive the directed growth of axons, or nerve fibers, toward specific targets. By binding to receptors on axons, chemorepellents or chemoattractants can cause axons to selectively extend and follow paths to their targets. Chemoattractants are important in the development of nervous systems and in the regeneration of damaged neural connections. Research in this area has implications for a range of neurological disorders and could lead to more effective treatments for a variety of diseases.
