Overview
Actinomadura is a genus of filamentous bacteria that are widespread in the environment, especially in soils. These organisms are of great importance in the fields of biotechnology and bioremediation. In biotechnology, Actinomadura species produce antibiotics, enzymes, and other biomolecules of commercial interest. In bioremediation, these bacteria are used to degrade organic pollutants, such as petroleum compounds, from soil and groundwater. Although Actinomadura species are generally non-pathogenic, some strains have been reported to cause infections in humans and animals.
