Rheumatology
Rheumatology is a medical specialty which deals with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system, specifically inflammation and other conditions of the joints, muscles, and soft tissues. It also deals with auto-immune disorders, where the immune system attacks healthy tissues, leading to a wide range of chronic diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and others. The goal of rheumatology is to reduce patient pain, improve and maintain joint mobility and function, and minimize the effects of chronic and disabling diseases. Rheumatologists work with a range of treatment modalities, such as medications, physical and occupational therapy, and lifestyle modifications. In addition, rheumatologists often coordinate care with other medical specialists such as orthopedists, neurologists, cardiologists, and physical therapists to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients.
