Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a disease of bones that causes them to weaken and become brittle, increasing the risk of fractures. It is a common condition that can affect people of all ages, but it is most common in postmenopausal women and the elderly. Osteoporosis is an important public health issue due to its consequences on quality of life, costs, and mortality. Prevention, early detection and treatment of osteoporosis are essential to reduce the associated health and social burden. Treatment typically includes lifestyle modifications such as diet and exercise, fall prevention, pharmacotherapy, and occasionally surgical treatments.
