Medicinal Biochemistry
Medicinal biochemistry is an interdisciplinary field of science that applies biochemical principles and techniques to investigate and develop medicinal products for use in clinical settings. Its main purposes are to produce novel pharmaceuticals and to enhance existing treatments for a variety of diseases. By researching the structure and function of proteins, glycoproteins, lipids, and carbohydrates, medicinal biochemists can help to discover new medicines and understand how diseases work. Medicinal biochemistry further develops our understanding of biochemical pathways and how different substances interact with the body, which enables us to devise new therapeutic strategies. In addition, it can also be used to design new drug delivery systems and identify potential drug targets. As such, medicinal biochemistry is a field which has a great potential to improve health outcomes by providing affordable and effective treatments to millions of people worldwide.
