Recirculating Aquaculture System
A Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) is a closed-loop water circulation system used in fish or seafood farming to reduce water exchange, conserve water, and create a more controlled environment for fish and other aquatic organisms. RAS systems allow a higher stocking density, greater control over environmental parameters, better oxygenation, and improved water quality. Through its ability to reduce water use, improve water quality and control the environment, RAS systems have become increasingly popular and are now widely used in both commercial and research-based aquaculture operations.
