Fisheries Management
Fisheries management is the practice of managing fish populations in order to maintain healthy and sustainable populations for human consumption, recreation, and other uses. Fisheries managers rely on a variety of strategies, including fishing regulations and trade agreements, to ensure that fish populations are maintained in balance with their environment. Proper fisheries management is essential for the continued health of fish stocks and the sustainability of our marine resources for future generations. The practice of fisheries management also helps to protect our oceans from overfishing and other unsustainable practices, which can lead to significant economic losses. Fisheries management is thus essential to the economic, ecological and cultural health of our oceans.
