Overview

Fish production is the cultivation, rearing, and harvesting of fish for human consumption and other uses, encompassing aquaculture and the management of fish stocks. It is an important contributor to food security, nutrition, livelihoods, and the economies of many countries. Effective fish production depends on factors such as feed quality and availability, water management, breeding and growth performance, and the practical obstacles that producers face in scaling and sustaining their operations. Research published in the International Journal of Aquaculture Research and Development addresses many of these dimensions. Studies examine the obstacles to fish culture in Khartoum State, the replacement of fishmeal with lima bean meal in feeding African catfish, and the survival and growth performance of African cyprinid species under varying dietary protein levels. Further work evaluates the growth performance of Heteroclarias juveniles fed graded levels of autoclaved castor seed cake, the effect of soaked pigeon pea seeds on Nile tilapia fingerlings, and the influence of fertilisation regimes on zooplankton density and the growth of common carp post-larvae. Together these contributions span feed formulation, growth optimisation, and the practical management of fish culture. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to fish production.
