Overview

Coastal studies is the scientific examination of physical, chemical and biological characteristics of oceanic and coastal environments. Coastal studies aims to investigate the distribution and circulation of ocean waters, sediment transport, shoreline changes, aquatic habitat dynamics, and biological processes. It is of primary importance to the health and conservation of marine life, and has implications for the sustainable use of resources and the management of coastal habitats. Coastal studies contributes to the sustainable management of coastal resources as well as the development of sustainable coastal infrastructure. The data collected from coastal studies provides a comprehensive understanding of the physical, chemical and biological functioning of the coastal environment necessary for informed management decisions.
