Aquaculture

Aquaculture is the rearing of aquatic organisms such as fish, mollusks, and plants in controlled environments, usually for food production. It has become a major source of protein and other nutritional components for humans around the world. Aquaculture can be practiced in both inland and coastal areas, with diverse production methods such as cage farming, pen culture, and pond culture. It is a sustainable form of food production that is efficient and has low impacts on the environment, allowing for fish and shellfish species to be raised in large numbers with minimal inputs. The industry plays a critical role in providing seafood to global markets, while also creating economic and employment opportunities in many areas.
