Pharmacodynamics
Pharmacodynamics is the study of how drugs interact with biological systems to produce their effects. Pharmacodynamics encompasses many areas, including pharmacology, biochemistry, physiology, and molecular biology. It is an important component of understanding how drugs are used to treat disease. Through pharmacodynamics, researchers can determine how a drug works in the body, how long it takes for a drug to reach its target, how long it stays active in the body, and how quickly the body metabolizes and eliminates the drug. This information helps medical professionals choose the most appropriate drug for a particular condition. Pharmacodynamics is also used to identify potential side effects of medications, to inform dosage decisions, and to help improve drug safety and efficacy.
