Antimicrobial Stewardship

Antimicrobial stewardship is a clinical practice used to measure the appropriate use of antibiotics and other antimicrobial agents to improve patient outcomes, reduce costs, and minimize the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. It involves collaboration between health care professionals, such as physicians and pharmacists, to optimize the selection, dosing, and duration of antibiotics for any given infection. This practice is essential in modern healthcare to reduce the development of antimicrobial-resistant organisms and the spread of healthcare-associated infections. A successful antimicrobial stewardship program is critical to controlling the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, optimizing patient outcomes, and reducing healthcare costs.
