Overview

Anesthetics are medicines used to block the sensation of pain in the body. During surgery, anesthesia is used to ensure that the patient does not feel the pain of the procedure. Anesthetics work by numbing the nerves in the body to block the transmission of pain signals. Different types of anesthetics are used in different medical scenarios depending on the type of pain relief needed. Anesthetics can be administered in various ways such as by injection, inhalation, topical application, and orally. In addition to pain relief during medical procedures, they can also be used to reduce discomfort in other parts of the body, such as the head or mouth. Anesthetics are essential in the medical field as they help to reduce the amount of stress and anxiety associated with health-related procedures and surgeries.
