Overview

Neurology is the medical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the nervous system, encompassing the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and neuromuscular junctions. Its clinical scope includes cerebrovascular disease, epilepsy, dementia and neurodegeneration, multiple sclerosis and other demyelinating disorders, movement disorders, neuro-oncology, infections of the central nervous system, and neurorehabilitation. The discipline integrates the neurological examination with neuroimaging, electrophysiology, and laboratory and biomarker analysis to localize lesions and define mechanism, and it increasingly draws on advances in neuroscience to refine diagnosis and therapy. Stroke care, in particular, depends on rapid imaging-based triage, risk-factor identification, and protocolized acute management. Research in this area examines stroke subtypes, endothelial function, and predictors of lacunar infarction, computed-tomography angiography protocols for acute ischemic stroke, the history and methodology of blinding in neurological clinical research, progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy in immunocompromised patients, disability and prognostic factors in multiple sclerosis, the role of music and music therapy in neurological care, and cognitive impairment in Alzheimer's disease. The journal publishes peer-reviewed work across clinical and translational neurology, including epilepsy and its comorbidities, integrating diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative perspectives on nervous-system disease in varied clinical settings and populations.
