Overview

The hepatitis A vaccine is a safe and effective way to prevent infection from the hepatitis A virus which is a common cause of liver disease. It is recommended for anyone who is at increased risk for hepatitis A infection, such as those traveling to certain countries, those living in areas with a high risk of infection, and those in close contact with someone who has hepatitis A. The vaccine provides immunity for several years and is the best defense against the virus. This vaccine is an important tool for protecting the public’s health and has greatly reduced the spread of hepatitis A in many countries.
