Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, is a condition where the force of the blood pushing against the walls of the arteries is consistently high. This condition is a prevalent risk factor for cardiovascular disease, which can lead to heart attacks, strokes, and heart failure. Cardiology is a medical specialty that involves the diagnosis and treatment of heart-related disorders. This field encompasses various heart conditions such as coronary artery disease, heart failure, and arrhythmias, among others. Cardiologists use various diagnostic tests such as electrocardiography, echocardiography, stress tests, and cardiac catheterization, to diagnose and manage these conditions. Hypertension is diagnosed through blood pressure measurements, which typically consist of two numbers – the systolic pressure and diastolic pressure.
