Overview
Health and social care in the community refers to the delivery of health services, support systems, and caregiving outside of institutional settings, focusing on how individuals receive care within their homes and local environments. Research published in Human Health Research examines multiple dimensions of this field, including the methodological challenges of studying community-based care. Published work has explored innovative research approaches such as photovoice methods for investigating informal caregiving relationships, as well as practical obstacles in recruiting representative samples of caregivers who support older adults managing multiple chronic conditions in home settings. The journal has also addressed the experiences of specific populations requiring community support, including refugees and their caregivers facing urgent health dilemmas, and patients transitioning from intensive care settings who require rehabilitation services. Additional research has investigated disease factors affecting community populations and examined health issues intersecting with social determinants of care. This body of work underscores the complexity of delivering effective health and social support outside traditional healthcare facilities, where care often depends on informal networks, family members, and community resources rather than institutional infrastructure.
