Intestinal Failure
Intestinal failure (IF) is a medical condition that occurs when the intestines are not able to perform their normal digestive functions. It can result from either an obstruction or a lack of digestive enzymes, or a combination of both. Intestinal failure is a serious condition and can be life-threatening if left untreated. Treatment options are available and may include nutritional support, medications, and/or surgery. The prognosis of IF depends on the underlying cause and the speed with which it is diagnosed and treated. Early diagnosis and treatment are key to improving the outcome of intestinal failure.
