Copper Metabolism

Copper metabolism is the process by which copper is absorbed and utilized in the body. It is essential for good health, and has multiple important functions in the body, including creating red blood cells, regulating metabolism and immune system function, forming connective tissue and aiding in nutrient absorption. Copper is an essential mineral for many life processes, so maintaining healthy copper metabolism is important for overall health. Copper metabolism is regulated by dietary intake and absorption, and copper metabolism can be disturbed due to deficiencies or from disease. Supplementation of copper may be recommended if copper levels are low or to address symptoms of copper disorders.
