Overview
Colonic diseases are disorders of the large intestine (colon) that can cause a range of symptoms, such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, and rectal bleeding. They can range from acute, self-limiting illnesses to chronic and life-threatening conditions. Common causes of colorectal diseases include infection, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, and colorectal cancer. Early diagnosis and treatment of colonic diseases is essential to reduce the risk of long-term complications. Treatment options vary depending on the type and severity of the condition but may include dietary changes, medications, or surgeries.
