Genetic Counseling
Genetic counseling is a process designed to help individuals and families understand and adapt to the medical, psychological and familial implications of genetic contributions to health and disease. Through education and support, genetic counselors provide families with the tools to make informed medical and personal decisions. Genetic counseling can help individuals identify their risk for inherited cancer and other conditions, determine the risk to family members, understand the results of genetic testing, and make informed decisions about their healthcare. It is an important tool in disease prevention as it helps identify diseases that may have a genetic basis and helps identify those individuals and families that may benefit from further testing or early treatment.
