Metabolism

Metabolism is the set of chemical reactions that occur in the body to convert food into energy and cellular components. It is essential for life, since without it, organisms would lack the energy needed to survive. Metabolism also helps regulate the body's temperature and maintains the body's pH balance. Metabolism is also involved in the production of proteins, enzymes, hormones, and cell repair and growth. Imbalances in metabolism can cause a variety of diseases, from hypoglycemia to obesity. Therefore, understanding metabolism and how it works is essential for optimal health.
