Organismal Cloning
Organismal cloning is the process of creating genetically identical organisms from a single source organism. This technique is mostly used for research and therapeutic purposes. It is also used for conservation of endangered species and in agriculture for the production of transgenic animals and plants. Cloning is achieved by manipulating the DNA of a single organism, often referred to as the donor, to create a population of cloned organisms that have identical genetic codes. Cloning allows scientists to study the effects of genetic changes in an organism due to environmental or genetic factors. It is also used to produce medical treatments such as stem cell therapy and to produce animals with desired traits. Furthermore, cloning can be used to preserve rare species that are at risk of becoming extinct, as well as for agriculturally beneficial traits, such as pest resistance and increased food production.
