Crop Genetics
Crop genetics is the study of molecular, genetic, and physiological traits of plants in order to understand, improve, and manipulate agricultural crops. It is an important factor in the development of new crop varieties that can be more productive, possess improved traits such as disease resistance, use fewer resources (water, land, etc.), and be better adapted to changing climates. Crop genetics also plays a major role in food safety, ensuring that crops do not contain toxins or allergens, and in providing nutrient-rich foods for improved health and nutrition. This field of study has a great potential to help humanity by increasing agricultural productivity and helping to ensure food security for the world’s growing population.
