Colonic Polyps

Colonic polyps are growths on the inner lining of the large intestine. They are usually non-cancerous, but they can potentially become cancerous if left untreated. They are usually found during a routine colonoscopy, which is a procedure used to detect colon cancer and other abnormalities. Treatment for colonic polyps can vary. Smaller and non-cancerous polyps can often be removed during the colonoscopy. Larger and/or cancerous polyps may require further surgery or other treatments. Early diagnosis and treatment are important because colonic polyps can become cancerous if left untreated.
