Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery
Cleft lip and palate surgery is a surgical procedure to repair birth defects of the lips and palate. It is the most common congenital deformity, occurring in more than 1 in 1,000 live births. Cleft lip and palate surgery repairs the physical deformities created by the defect, and helps improve the function of the lips, palate, teeth, and speech. The surgery consists of multiple procedures, which vary depending on the individual needs of the patient. Surgery can help to improve facial symmetry, restore normal function to the lip and palate, improve speech, and prevent further complications such as ear infections.
