Freshwater Fungi

Freshwater fungi are a group of fungi species that can live and thrive in freshwater ecosystems. They are important players in freshwater food webs and can sequester important nutrients from aquatic systems. In addition to their ecological role, freshwater fungi play an important role in bioremediation, offering potential applications for use in wastewater treatment and bioremediation of industrial compounds. They also serve as natural indicators of water quality and are important for monitoring the long-term health of aquatic ecosystems.
