Overview

Shrimp are a type of decapod crustacean, usually found living in marine and freshwater habitats. They are widely used in cuisines throughout the world, notably in seafood dishes, and are even considered a delicacy in some cultures. Shrimp are valuable economically, and are also important for their roles in the environment. They provide food for larger animals, form part of aquatic food chains, and aerate the soil with their burrowing and cleaning activities. As a result, shrimp are a significant part of aquatic ecosystems, and their conservation is important for preserving the health of these habitats.
