Flour
Beetle The Flour Beetle (Tribolium castaneum) is a species of beetle found in stored human food products and grain. It is the primary pest of mills, warehouses and food-processing plants and is a concern to farmers, millers and food-processing companies. It is easily recognised by its small size (3-4 mm long) and reddish-brown colour. The Flour Beetle is an important agricultural pest because it can cause large-scale economic losses due to the destruction and contamination of grains, pulses, cereals, and other stored food products. It is also a major vector for food-borne diseases due to its ability to spread harmful bacteria on food products, making it a potential health hazard. In order to control the presence of Flour Beetles, integrated pest management strategies are employed, such as chemical and biological control, sanitation and the use of predatory beetles.
