Overview

Climate change is having serious impacts on food safety. Warmer temperatures and changes in rainfall patterns are leading to changes in growing seasons or crop yields and triggering the spread of new insect pests, weeds, and diseases. Climate change can also lead to the spread of foodborne illnesses and unsafe food processing practices. It is essential for food safety professionals to recognize the effects of climate change and develop strategies to adapt to this changing environment. Aggressive monitoring of food safety conditions, as well as targeted public health education campaigns and improved food production practices, can help businesses and consumers protect themselves against the potential risks posed by climate change.
