Overview

Fetal Surgery patient selection is an important process in the care of pregnant women who may be candidates for Fetal Surgery. It involves a multidisciplinary team of experts who assess the risk-benefit ratio of a procedure and determine if the risks to the fetus, mother and family are acceptable. Additionally, the selection process will identify if the procedure will help achieve the desired outcome and provide outcome predictions, using a combination of clinical criteria, laboratory and imaging tests, as well as fetal genetic testing. Proper patient selection is crucial for successful outcomes. Fetal Surgery can provide meaningful improvements in outcomes for certain conditions that are otherwise untreatable before birth.
