Postpartum Hemorrhage

Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is the loss of more than 500 ml of blood within 24 hours following childbirth. PPH is the leading cause of maternal death worldwide and one of the most serious and life-threatening complications of childbirth. It can lead to severe physical and psychological complications for the mother and make it difficult for the baby to be born healthy. PPH can be treated with medications, surgery, or transfusion of blood or blood products. Prevention strategies include adequate prenatal care, management of labor, and early recognition of signs and symptoms.
