Overview
Ovarian cancer is an aggressive form of cancer that affects the ovaries, two small organs that produce eggs and hormones in women. It is one of the most deadly gynaecological malignancies and is responsible for more deaths than any other female reproductive cancer. Early diagnosis is key to increasing survival rates, however the symptoms of ovarian cancer can be difficult to detect in its early stages. Symptoms may include abdominal pain and bloating, low back pain, pain during intercourse, and changes in bowel habits. Treatment for ovarian cancer can include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, or a combination of all three. With early diagnosis and proper treatment, the survival rate for ovarian cancer can be as high as 92%.
