Plant Biotechnology
Plant biotechnology is the application of biotechnological techniques and principles to plants in order to modify or improve their characteristics, such as improving their yields, stress tolerance and nutritional value. Plant biotechnology has the potential to make a major impact on crop yields, food production and global food security. By using the tools of biotechnology, researchers can create new varieties of plants that are more resistant to pests and environmental stressors, have higher yields and nutrition, and are tolerant to climate change. There are also applications of plant biotechnology in the fields of medicine, pharmaceuticals and renewable energy production. Plant biotechnology is a rapidly growing field with a bright future as it is being used to address global challenges such as climate change, population growth, food and energy security.
