Overview

School health encompasses the physical, mental, and social well-being of children and adolescents within educational settings, along with programs and interventions designed to promote healthy development during the school years. Research in this journal addresses diverse dimensions of school health across multiple international contexts, examining conditions that directly affect student well-being and academic potential. Published studies investigate communicable and nutritional health challenges, including intestinal parasitic infections among primary school children and vitamin A deficiency disorders in preschool populations. Adolescent health receives substantial attention through research on hypertension prevalence, substance use patterns including marijuana utilization among junior high students, and sexual and reproductive health knowledge and communication. Mental health promotion through community-based mentoring and coaching programs for primary school-aged children represents another focus area. Prevention efforts are documented through studies of teen pregnancy awareness programs, oral health interventions using fluoride and silver compounds, and HIV/AIDS awareness and testing attitudes among secondary students. Comparative international research examines dietary education approaches across different countries. This body of work reflects the critical role schools play as sites for health surveillance, education, and intervention, particularly in resource-limited settings where educational institutions may provide primary access to health information and services for young populations.
