Hepatic/gastrointestinal Toxicology

Hepatic/gastrointestinal toxicology is the study of how toxic agents affect the liver and gastrointestinal system. It is an important field of research to identify chemicals, drugs and other agents that can cause adverse health effects in humans. By understanding the mechanisms of toxicity of such contaminants, it is possible to limit or prevent the potential risks to health by developing better strategies for protection and/or treatment. This research also helps guide the regulation of potentially hazardous substances, ensuring the public is better protected. Additionally, hepatic/gastrointestinal toxicology research provides insight into the development of improved therapeutic agents with fewer side effects.
