Pluripotent
Stem Cells Pluripotent stem cells are a type of ‘master’ cell that can develop into any type of cell in the human body. They are found in embryos, but can also be derived from adult tissues such as skin cells in laboratories. These cells can be used to grow human tissues and organs on laboratory-grown scaffolds, providing a potential source of replacement tissues that could be used to heal damaged organs and treat various diseases. Pluripotent stem cells also have the potential to be used in personalized medicine, where treatments can be tailored to the individual’s genetic make-up.
