Prostatectomy
Prostatectomy is an operation that involves the removal of all or part of a man's prostate gland. It is most commonly performed due to prostate cancer, an enlargement of the prostate or to treat urinary symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate. The removal of the prostate allows the cancerous cells to be removed from the body, as well as releasing pressure on the surrounding tissue. Prostatectomy also helps reduce the risk of cancer spreading to other parts of the body. After the procedure, patients are usually able to return to everyday activities within a few days or weeks, depending on the severity of their condition. Prostatectomy can be an effective way to treat prostate cancer and other prostate-related conditions.
