Overview
Actuators are mechanical devices that convert energy or a signal into motion and force. They are used to open, close, or otherwise alter the position of parts in an object, such as a valve, in response to a signal or energy source. Actuators are used in many applications, including automotive, industrial, and construction, and are an essential part of automation systems. They are also important in robotics and in medical applications, such as prosthetics and surgical robotics. Actuators can be powered by electricity, hydraulics, or pneumatics and can provide relatively precise, repeatable, and reliable motion.
