Prolactinoma
Prolactinoma is a type of pituitary tumor in which cells overproduce the hormone prolactin. It is the most common type of pituitary tumor and is usually benign, meaning it is not cancerous. High levels of prolactin can cause problems such as infertility, menstrual irregularities in women, decreased libido in men, and changes in body composition and body temperature. The treatment for prolactinoma usually involves surgery to remove the tumor, or medication to reduce the levels of prolactin in the body. In some cases, radiation therapy is required. Prolactinomas are typically treatable and can be managed through regular monitoring and treatment. Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent long-term complications from developing, allowing people with prolactinoma to live their normal lives.
