Insulin Resistance
Insulin resistance is a condition in which the body's cells become less sensitive to the hormone insulin, making it harder for the body to regulate its blood sugar levels. It is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke, and is estimated to affect 1 in 4 adults in the United States. Insulin resistance can be managed by following a healthy lifestyle, including regular physical activity and a balanced diet that includes a variety of nutrient-dense foods. In some cases, medications may be prescribed to help improve insulin sensitivity and reduce the risk of diabetes and other health complications.
