Adrenalectomy

Adrenalectomy is a surgical procedure to remove all or part of one or both adrenal glands. The adrenal glands are a pair of small endocrine organs located near the kidneys, which produce hormones such as cortisol, epinephrine, and aldosterone. Removal of the adrenal glands can be used to treat some types of cancer, hypertension, and other hormone-related disorders. Adrenalectomy can also be used to test the function of the adrenals in diagnosing conditions such as Addison’s disease. Recovery time and possible side effects vary based on the type of procedure performed.
